5.0 out of 5 stars A book I wish I read 10 years ago
I loved this book for its honesty, ease to read and a wealth of information to guide someone on the chronic illness journey. It is her experience but can help many. I resonate with much of what is in the book and wished I read it years ago.
5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for us all-not only relevant to those in a similar situation
I couldn’t put this book down! I am not directly effected by a chronic illness but it was so insightful and a moving and brutally honest account of Jane’s life since diagnosis. I did however find myself being guided to reconsider and evaluate several areas of my own life, just by the thoughts portrayed within the book. Although the book will offer great insight and guidance to those who are effected by a similar illness, this book should not only be read by those. The accounts of events whilst under care in hospital and times at home are often recanted with a sense of humour, amazing under the circumstances. Beautifully written and openly honest with much valuable and practical information for those in a similar situation.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!! Well worth a read!!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book!! I suffer chronic illness too, and alot of what was wrote in this book i could very much relate too. Where it was written about health professionals too, and experiences of staying in hospital, it sounded very much like my own experiences of being in hospital as an in patient, and as an out patient too. Anyone living with a health condition, health professionals, or any family members of those living with health conditions really does need to read this!! I highly recommend it!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Very journalistic approach on chronic diseases
Jane is not a journalist but her soul and her writings are. Her first book is an amazing deep research and wake-up call on chronic diseases. She shows facts, statistics and different point of views fruit of her hard work to deal with her own challenge but also to transform it in a book that can help other people. She writes with a beautiful and courageous narrative of a good storyteller. She possesses an incredible power to motivate people even if you are not someone that goes through the same journey. As a yoga teacher I am so happy to see yoga mentioned and encouraged by her on the book. This book is a must buy, a must read and a must gift. Can’t wait for the next one.
5.0 out of 5 stars An emotional book full of helpful advice
Such an insightful book! Definitely helpful to read if you suffer from a chronic illness or know someone who does, offers knowledge and wisdom that would help anyone. Its incredibly emotional as well, I could never have imagined some of the stories described in the book. But the anecdotes were told in a way not to gain sympathy, but to pass on advice and knowledge which was amazing! Overall such a truthful and insightful book I would definitely recommend!
5.0 out of 5 stars I like Jane – updated
I like Jane.
Edit: having read this a couple of times, I would say it’s essential reading for people with chronic illnesses AND anyone who intersects; family, friends, healthcare professionals, charities and government. It is a rare insight not into the clinical impact of a rare chronic illness but into the personal, social, professional and human impact on someone’s life.
Read this book. Then read it again.
5.0 out of 5 stars A must read!
What a book! It broke the ice of how to be with someone with a chronic illness, took you through the medical, bureaucratic, emotional, and practical journeys one has to travel down. It made me laugh and cry but overall left me in awe of all people who live with CI. Thank you for your honesty, frankness and overwhelming sense of humour!
5.0 out of 5 stars ‘Unputdownable’! Simply wonderful
A must read for absolutely anyone! Well written in plain English, a personal and honest account that as a reader I felt privileged to have been allowed to share. This book is ‘unputdownable’ .Jane’s personal journey is so familiar to me, not as a person with a chronic illness, but as someone who lives with one from the side lines and I’m so grateful she has had the courage to share her story to support others too.
4.0 out of 5 stars Very moving
A personal story living with chronic illness and the affect on her family,a very moving story
5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading
Wow, both heart rending and heartwarming. Given the authors journey, I am amazed that Jane found the time to write a book on top of her ordeals. A salutary lesson in being grateful for what you have and carpe diem! Essential reading, not just if you have a chronic illness, but if you are supporting friends or family. I found it illuminating to see how well meant comments can have such an effect on sufferers. Fantastic contribution Jane, I am sure that this will help and reassure many people.
5.0 out of 5 stars A book anyone with a chronic condition should read!
This book is so honest and down to earth. The author shares her experiences of dealing with her condition whilst grappling with the health service in the UK. I love that she really shows us how her life is whist trying to carry on as normal. I don’t have a chronic illness myself but I do have a son and close family member that do.
Thank you Jane for finding the energy and the space in your life to give is this needed book.

A wonderful resource for anyone affected by chronic illness: patients, friends, family members, work colleagues.

At the beginning of this book Jane says it contains the information she wishes she had at the beginning of her journey; she has achieved this goal completely. I wish I had this book when I walked out of the hospital with a diagnosis of a rare disease and chronic illness. It would have helped knowing how things are, tips to avoid the pitfalls and smooth the curves along the way. Chronic illness can be a lonely journey and it would have helped having something like this on my side to refer to even if it was just reassurance that I was doing okay and the best I could do at that moment.
Her words resonate with me and like her I am several years into my journey with a chronic and rare disease which has made me find my own ways to cope. Many of them are similar to hers. Reading this book earlier may have given me a short cut to some. I love the quotes includes especially the poem by William Ernest Henley, and have taken it to heart as my message to myself. This was one of those books I nearly committed a crime against books and highlight important passages (post it notes have been used instead). Her thoughts on the health care system, industry and health care workers mirror mine. It is easy to read and her warmth and humour shines through. It includes her story, tips and support on how to deal with yourself, friends and doctors. It is her story but I think it will help many. I would love this to be available to people who need it and to doctors, and nurses dealing with patients. It would help so much.

I got diagnosed and started therapy without knowing or understanding much of my illness and in time I’ve learnt a lot, but reading Jane’s book has been like talking to a friend who has already been through the same as you so it makes you feel understood and not alone. I absolutely recommend this book not only to people with chronic illnesses but to everyone so maybe there’s some more empathy and understanding in the world towards the chronically ill.
I devoured this book which has been written with honesty and positivity! Thanks Jane for sharing your story and I’m looking forward to read your next book!
Let’s make something together.
